Asians have skin that is unique and different from Caucasians (white skin). Characteristics of Asian Skin are:

3. Asians have a darker skin to the caucasians. The absolute number of pigment producing cells (melanocytes) are similar between the caucasians and Asians but Asians tend to produce perhaps more pigments (melannin) and these melanins tend to be distributed more towards the surface of the skin. These, in combination, give Asians darker skin colour.
4. Asians respond differently to the sunexposure than caucasians. Asian skin tends to tan more and burn less. For this reason, a chronic UV exposure tend to produce more pigmentation related problems than the caucasians.
5. Asians repond differently to the trauma (physical, surgical, chemical or light). They tend to produce more post inflamatory/traumatic hyperpigmentation, which leaves a patchy brown marks on the site of skin injury and this does not resolve easily. This is frequently seen, even in those individuals, with minor scratches or something trivial such as insect bite.
6. Asians tend to have more frequent skin pigmentation disorders which are related to their racial and ethnicity.
7. Asians tend to produce higher rate of unsightly scars than Caucasians. Keloids, hypertrophic scarring as well as pigmented scarring is more common in Asians.
